Position: Geotechnical Engineering Manager
Role Summary:In the capacity of Geotechnical Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the design of solar tracker foundations for Array Technologies, Inc.'s international operations. This position entails leading a centralized team while also providing functional guidance to engineers dedicated to specific markets within a matrix organizational structure. You will be accountable for managing workflows across Pre-Sales, Contract Preparation, and Post-Contract phases, delivering preliminary and final designs, as well as engineering documents ready for construction. This role may require occasional evening and weekend hours, along with limited travel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of engineers tasked with:
- Evaluating geotechnical and structural engineering reports to formulate initial foundation designs
- Creating a Bill of Materials (BOM) for the various foundation products needed for solar installations
- Overseeing changes to foundation designs and BOM throughout the construction phase
- Collaborating with external engineering service providers for foundation design solutions
- Conducting grading analysis services
- Working closely with Applications Engineering Managers and Civil Structural Engineering Managers to ensure Array's comprehensive technical services are industry-leading
- Engaging with various stakeholders across the organization to align engineering processes with broader business workflows
- Providing prioritization guidance to team members based on Array's strategic objectives
- Developing in-depth technical expertise in Array's product offerings and their applications in geotechnical engineering
- Estimating grading analysis and coordinating with the Civil Engineer of Record on grading requirements for tracker installations
- Drafting and approving project-specific Pull Out Test scope of work documents
- Maintaining relationships with Professional Engineering and Pull Out Test firms in operational regions
- Delivering technical presentations for client meetings on geotechnical engineering topics as necessary
- Collaborating with a geographically diverse team to provide top-tier engineering services, establishing standardized geotechnical design criteria for Array's tracker systems
- Building strong technical relationships with clients' engineering leadership
- Reviewing and approving technical project requirements in Requests for Proposals (RFPs) related to geotechnical engineering and compliance with codes
- Addressing escalated issues from the Applications Engineering Group
- Leading the development and evaluation of tools and software applications utilized by the Applications Engineering Group
- Participating in standards organizations to promote industry-level advancements in geotechnical engineering and structural codes
- Advancing geotechnical engineering and foundation design methodologies in collaboration with other engineering disciplines and thought leaders to ensure optimal, defensible designs are presented to clients
- Willingness to travel primarily within the United States, up to 10%, with occasional international travel as required.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering
- Over 10 years of experience in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering roles
- At least 5 years of experience in designing driven pile foundations
- Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software, preferably LPILE
- Expertise in grading analysis using AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Ability to interpret geotechnical data and apply it to utility-scale solar projects
- Knowledge of local US building codes to enhance foundation designs for utility solar applications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering
- Experience in managing engineering teams, particularly remote teams
- Expertise in applying international building codes to optimize foundation designs for utility solar
- Recognition as a thought leader in the industry
- Capability to work across multiple organizations in a dynamic, smaller company environment
