Job Responsibilities

The Commonwealth of Virginia is looking for a dedicated PRN Nurse Practitioner specializing in Primary Care to deliver comprehensive medical assessments and treatment for patients facing both acute and chronic health issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver medical services to designated units.
  • Conduct and document thorough medical evaluations, including detailed medical histories and physical examinations, along with focused assessments based on patient complaints.
  • Administer care for patients with both acute and chronic health conditions.
  • Order and interpret standard diagnostic tests.
  • Formulate and document working diagnoses and treatment strategies for patients with varying medical conditions.
  • Monitor diagnostic studies, referrals, and ongoing preventive care requirements.
  • Secure and document necessary consents for medical treatment.
  • Engage in discussions with patients and their families regarding medical concerns and treatments.
  • Collaborate with attending psychiatrists and nurse practitioners to develop treatment plans for patients with complex medical and psychological needs.
  • Work alongside supervising physicians to seek consultations or referrals when medical conditions do not respond adequately to treatment.
  • Refer patients to appropriate external healthcare providers for specialized management or consultation as clinically indicated.

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nurse practitioner training program and current certification. Unrestricted RN and NP licenses in Virginia are required, along with experience in Primary Care medicine at the nurse practitioner level, including training in physical diagnosis and medical therapeutics.
