Scientific Assistant

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Scientific Assistant to join our team at ICONMA in Wood Dale, IL.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine laboratory functions with precision and accuracy to support laboratory staff and optimize production.
  • Receive and sort specimens, ensuring efficient department operations.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment through regular instrument maintenance.
  • Conduct tasks such as centrifugation, label printing, data recording, and specimen storage/retrieval.
  • Prepare reagents and media for department use.
  • Prepare specimens for testing, including worklist creation, aliquoting, clot/fibrin checking, inoculation, and slide preparation.
  • Perform QA/QC duties as assigned by management.
  • Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.
  • Decontaminate work areas to maintain a safe environment.
  • Conduct weekly radioactive wipe tests.
  • Maintain accurate records and files for department reference.
  • Replace gas cylinders as needed.
  • Adhere to all PPE requirements and safety regulations.
  • Operate laboratory computers and PCs efficiently.
  • Dispose of biohazardous materials properly.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as required.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; medical assistant training is beneficial. Math and science courses are preferred.
  • The ability to prioritize tasks and maximize workstation efficiency is essential.
  • Effective information retention and recall are crucial for this role.
  • Courtesy and respect when interacting with coworkers and customers are mandatory.
