Job Title: Restaurant Host/Hostess

Job Summary:

Hotel Vin, a 120-room boutique hotel, is seeking a skilled Restaurant Host/Hostess to provide exceptional quality and service to our guests. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for welcoming guests, managing reservations, and ensuring a smooth dining experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor guests entering and exiting the dining area, greeting them with a smile and a warm welcome.
  • Manage reservations, waitlists, and seating charts to ensure efficient table turnover.
  • Communicate with guests, servers, and management to ensure seamless service.
  • Utilize Open Table to take reservations, review the daily reservation book, and seat guests without reservations.
  • Provide menus to guests, inform them of their server's name, and ensure they have a pleasant dining experience.
  • Direct the seating rotation within the restaurant to maintain a smooth workflow.
  • Oversee the general functioning of the dining room during meal service, relaying information to service personnel and making adjustments as needed.
  • Answer the dining room telephone, take reservations, and take messages for staff.
  • Handle guest service issues promptly and graciously, reporting situations to the Restaurant Manager on Duty.
  • Complete table checks, operate the cash register, and reconcile cash till at the start and close of shift.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of your workstation and surrounding areas.
  • Ensure someone is always present at the host stand.
  • Communicate guest preferences to the service team verbally and through printed chits.
  • Proactively notify management of possible seating delays.
  • Assist with server and bus person duties as needed, ensuring the maintenance of food service effectiveness and efficiency.

Requirements:

  • Fluency in reading, writing, and spoken English.
  • Excellent personal presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to think and communicate clearly, organize, and prioritize in high-pressure situations.
  • Basic knowledge of the restaurant's menu, ingredients, and cooking techniques.
  • Knowledgeable of basic sanitation and computer operations.
  • Ability to absorb large amounts of information quickly and multitask.
  • Ability to maintain excellent attendance and punctuality, working all shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to walk and stand throughout an eight-hour shift.
  • Ability to lift, balance, and carry large, oval Dining Room service trays.
  • Must have the ability to lift trays, soiled dish bins, etc., of up to 40 pounds in weight.

Experience:

  • Previous restaurant serving and/or customer service experience preferred but not required.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Closed-toe, non-canvas, and non-skid soled shoes.
