Job Objectives:
Under the direct supervision of the Head Custodian, this position involves performing essential custodial tasks to ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of the educational facility, its grounds, equipment, and furnishings. The role requires effective communication with the Head Custodian regarding any custodial issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Compliance with all mandated health requirements (e.g., negative tuberculosis test).
- Clear criminal background check or investigation suitable for public school employment.
- Ability to work independently and acquire necessary skills for the role.
- Capability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Physical ability to lift and manage bulk supplies.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
The following duties are representative of performance expectations. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.
- Conduct daily checks to determine if school activities require preparation or cleanup.
- Initiate routine tasks independently.
- Adhere to board policies and administrative procedures.
- Promote a positive image of the school district.
- Support community partnerships that enhance district programs and services.
- Monitor building conditions during working hours, recognizing potential issues (e.g., unusual odors, noises, leaks) and reporting them immediately. Ensure clear access to fire exits.
- Perform custodial duties, including regular trash removal, floor maintenance (washing, stripping, waxing), sanitizing restrooms, restocking supplies, and cleaning windows.
- Address unexpected situations (e.g., spills, broken glass) promptly.
- Follow safety procedures for cleaning up injuries involving chemicals or bodily fluids and participate in occupational safety training as required.
- Assist in moving and arranging furnishings, supplies, and equipment as directed.
- Anticipate supply needs to prevent interruptions in work schedules.
- Assist with deliveries, including unloading and storing supplies.
- Comply with safety regulations and environmental laws, ensuring custodial supplies are labeled and stored safely.
- Document all injuries requiring medical attention promptly.
- Maintain school grounds by picking up trash and removing graffiti, snow, and ice as directed.
- Report any student discipline issues, vandalism, or related concerns.
- Notify of damaged or missing safety equipment (e.g., emergency lights, alarm systems).
- Act responsibly to protect district property and equipment, responding to emergencies as needed.
- Assist with building security and direct visitors appropriately.
- Monitor student behavior for potential issues and report concerns to an administrator.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect personal privacy.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
- Accept personal responsibility for decisions and conduct.
- Maintain a neat appearance and wear appropriate work attire.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Exposure to various situations may range from infrequent to frequent based on circumstances.
- Tasks may require balancing, bending, climbing, crouching, kneeling, reaching, standing, and working at various heights.
- Physical demands may include lifting, carrying, and moving supplies and equipment.
- May require operating or riding in a vehicle.
- Travel to meetings and work assignments may be necessary.
- Potential exposure to moving mechanical parts and adverse weather conditions.
- Use of protective clothing and safety equipment may be required.

- Potential exposure to airborne particulates, chemical irritants, and other hazards.
