Machinist Specialist

As a Machinist in the Army National Guard, you will utilize your knowledge, skills, and expertise to repair broken parts, modify old ones, or fabricate replacements for all equipment. You will operate lathes, drill presses, grinders, welding gear, and other machine shop equipment to achieve this goal.

• Work with various tools, including calipers, micrometers, and rulers, to measure work and ensure accuracy.
• Study blueprints or written plans of the parts to be made to ensure a thorough understanding of the project.
• Cut metal stock using a variety of tools and techniques.
• Use drill presses and other equipment to shape and smooth parts.

• Ability to work with different metals and materials.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols.
• Interest in math, general science, metal working, and mechanical drawing.
• Ability to think critically and find solutions to mechanical problems.
