Position Overview
At NNM, we are privileged to have dedicated, full-time substitute teacher assistants who serve as floaters throughout the school day, providing essential support to our students, faculty, and classrooms. We are looking for candidates who can join our team immediately for the upcoming school year. This is a full-time role that offers eligibility for benefits.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, with working hours from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm daily, along with the possibility of additional hours as required. Paid time off is available during school breaks and holidays as per the academic calendar.
The substitute teacher assistant plays a vital role in supporting students, teachers, and classrooms, primarily at the upper elementary level (grades 4 to 6) during faculty absences or when extra resources are needed. They will collaborate closely with their supervisor, the Academic Coach, to establish a daily schedule that addresses the needs of the students and other assigned areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the supervisor (Academic Coach) to create a weekly and daily plan based on both planned and unplanned absences or schedule adjustments.
- Within the designated classroom and other learning environments:
- Assist with classroom activities and lessons, working in harmony with other teachers, ensuring adherence to classroom rules.
- Support students in completing assigned tasks.
- Guide and manage student behavior and social interactions within the classroom.
- Help set up, clean, and maintain classroom settings.
- Regularly review student information, emergency protocols, events, lesson plans, and programming with faculty and supervisors.
- Supervise and guide students during transition periods, recess, arrival, and dismissal, ensuring safe and respectful movement in and out of the classroom.
- Communicate observations regarding students to the teaching teams and collaborate to provide the necessary guidance and support.
- Maintain connectivity and responsiveness via email and other communication channels with faculty and staff.
- Provide childcare for students as assigned on in-service days, conference days, and other working days throughout the academic year.
- Participate in end-of-year overnight trips (4 days), working closely with faculty and students for a week of outdoor education. May also be required to supervise other daytime and overnight field trips as assigned.
- Perform additional duties as needed based on the age group, school requirements, and more.
- Bachelor's degree is required.
- Prior experience working with elementary-aged children, preferably in an educational setting; Montessori experience is a plus.
- Reliable, adaptable, and capable of providing high levels of support to both adults and children.
- Demonstrated ability to support a diverse student population, embracing the community's anti-racist practices.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with both children and adults.
- Able to perform duties in-person within a school environment.
This is a full-time position eligible for benefits, starting as soon as possible. The compensation for this role begins at $20 per hour and may increase based on experience.
