Mental Health Therapist Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate Mental Health Therapist to join our team at Austin Anxiety and Trauma Specialists. As a key member of our clinical staff, you will be responsible for providing high-quality therapy to individuals on a mostly weekly basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual therapy sessions to patients with a focus on therapeutic excellence.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments and develop customized treatment plans with goals and objectives.
  • Offer crisis intervention as needed and provide follow-up care to ensure patients receive appropriate ongoing care.
  • Maintain proper notes and documentation of patient interactions.
  • Guide clients in developing skills and strategies to deal with their problems, encouraging them to express their feelings and develop insight into themselves and their relationships.
  • Create a safe and supportive environment for clients to feel seen and heard.
  • Evaluate patient mental conditions based on review of client information and develop treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge.
  • Build trusting relationships and rapport with clients, offering resources and referrals when necessary.
  • Develop specific therapy plans with goals and objectives for individual patients and refer them to community resources or specialists as needed.
  • Monitor patient situations on a frequent basis and offer follow-up care as required.
  • Assist with intervention for patients in crisis situations.

Qualifications:

  • Possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as great communication and interpersonal skills.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a clinical setting working with mental health patients is required.
  • Training and/or experience in treating anxiety and trauma-related disorders is preferred.
  • EMDR training is a plus.
  • Must be a licensed LPC, LCSW, or Psychologist.
  • Must be licensed in Texas.
  • Must be comfortable working remotely and proficient in virtual technology, such as Gmail, Zoom, and electronic EHR.
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent and a bachelor's degree in a field such as counseling or social work; a master's degree is preferred.
  • CPR and BLS (Basic Life Support) certifications are required.
  • Current and unrestricted state license as an LMHC (licensed mental health counselor) or equivalent is necessary.
