Job Title: HIM Specialist

Spectrum Healthcare Partners is seeking a highly skilled HIM Specialist to join our team. As a HIM Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of patient health information, while adhering to HIPAA policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review patient records for completeness and accuracy prior to releasing information in response to internal or external requests
  • Protect the confidentiality of patients and records at all times, complying with HIPAA policies and procedures
  • Prepare and scan documents; disseminate to charts
  • Release information from the electronic medical record in response to properly authorized requests
  • Respond quickly and positively to customers while exhibiting a professional manner
  • Report documentation and scanning errors
  • Manage electronic fax folders
  • Manage outgoing referrals
  • Respond quickly and positively to customers while exhibiting a professional manner
  • Manage incoming departmental phone calls and mail
  • Assist walk-in patients with record requests
Requirements:
  • High school graduate or GED
  • 2 year's related experience in a medical office or hospital setting
  • Broad knowledge in medical records administration and medical terminology
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and State regulations related to release of information
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to make well-reasoned decisions, both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to follow-through to meet patient, physician, and/or practice needs
  • Ability to use discretion in handling confidential information
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail oriented with the ability to prioritize
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
