Position Overview:

  • The Cardiovascular Technologist is accountable for ensuring the quality and efficient execution of cardiac catheterization and related procedures for accurate interpretation. This role involves patient education, high-quality patient care, and thorough documentation. Compliance with HIPAA regulations and adherence to all national and state regulatory standards is essential. The technician operates in both sterile and non-sterile environments, creating optimal conditions for patients undergoing procedures. The CV technologist possesses in-depth knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques, combining an understanding of human anatomy with the tools and technologies necessary for invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Exhibits proficiency and competence in participating in cardiac catheterization procedures.
  • Follows radiation safety protocols, quality standards, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains the ability to scrub and/or circulate during procedures.
  • Practices aseptic and sterile techniques while upholding universal precautions.
  • Acquires and maintains knowledge of instruments and devices, including their identification and proper usage.
  • Ensures equipment functionality, troubleshoots issues, and reports any malfunctions or potential hazards through the appropriate channels.
  • Actively contributes to enhancing the patient experience.
  • Prepares patients for procedures by verifying orders, confirming patient identity per policy, and ensuring informed consent is completed.
  • Communicates procedure details to patients effectively.
  • Positions patients appropriately for procedures.
  • Ensures aseptic techniques are maintained during setup and throughout the procedure.
  • Monitors patients during procedures.
  • Assists patients at the conclusion of procedures.
  • Interacts professionally with staff, physicians, and other disciplines.
  • Maintains hemostasis at the access site until it is achieved.
  • Records, stores, retrieves, and analyzes data collected during procedures.
  • Provides comprehensive patient documentation regarding patient information and procedural details.
  • Manages supplies within the department and submits charge sheets for product reordering and patient billing as necessary.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to enhance the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of patient care.
  • Possesses knowledge of CCL equipment, including but not limited to IABP, hemodynamic monitoring, acist injector, and IVUS.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Credentials:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (Required)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (Preferred)
Education and Experience:
  • Graduate of an accredited Cardiovascular Technology program with a degree or certification in an allied health field (Required).
  • New Jersey state licensure/certification as an allied health professional (Required).
  • Two or more years of experience in cardiac procedures (Preferred).
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a catheterization lab.
