Community Engagement Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Program Coordinator to join our team at Sarasota County. As a key member of our Parks and Recreation department, you will be responsible for creating and implementing a variety of recreational and leisure programs to meet the needs of our community.
- Manage day-to-day operations of our parks and recreation facilities.
- Serve as a liaison between our department and community partners, including the Boys and Girls Club.
- Develop and implement programs that promote community engagement, social cohesion, and cultural understanding.
- Generate revenue, manage budgets, and reduce expenses to ensure the financial sustainability of our programs.
- Ensure policies and procedures are followed and safety measures are adhered to at all times.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate staff to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality programs.
- Prepare and submit required reports to management and stakeholders.
Work Hours:
- Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
- Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Work schedules may vary due to split shifts, rotations, emergencies, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation, Leisure Services, Education, Public Administration, Business Administration, or closely related field and two (2) years of related experience.
- OR Master's degree from an accredited college in the above fields can substitute for one year of professional experience.
- OR Progressively responsible professional experience as described herein can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
- Valid Florida Driver's license by date of hire.
- Certification in CPR or willing to obtain within the first six (6) months of employment.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
