Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Care Associate to join our team at Physician Affiliate Group of New York. The successful candidate will work under the direction of a licensed nurse or other medical staff to provide patients with care and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform venipuncture, finger-sticks, HIV Pre and Post Test Counseling, Rapid HIV Testing, and responding and assisting with emergencies.
  • Facilitate Telehealth encounters as needed.
  • Administer total care (bed bath, partial or complete).
  • Assist with patient's hygiene – including skin care, mouth care, shaving, etc.
  • Transfers patients – in and out of bed, stretcher, and wheelchair.
  • Positions patients and carry out a range of motion exercise.
  • Prepares patients for meals and assists with feeding as needed.
  • Assists with unit patient admissions and transfers.
  • Measures & records patients' vital signs (such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, etc.) in the electronic health record.
  • Perform EKGs as required and follow outlined procedures for submitting abnormal EKGs.
  • Perform dry sterile dressing changes and assist with other patient treatment.
  • Administers hot and cold applications to patients, under supervision.
  • Perform blood draws and urine testing.
  • Chaperone staff in all clinical areas when requested.
  • Perform tasks consistent with the PCA job description.
Emergency Response

The Patient Care Associate will respond to and address medical emergencies, such as falls, heart attacks, strokes, burns, and recovering post-operative patients. They will provide clinically appropriate care as directed by the Registered Nurse and/or Physician.

Physical Demands

The Patient Care Associate must be able to lift fifty (50) pounds and move, lift, or transfer patients may involve lifting up to 100 pounds. They must also be able to stand for extended periods and have fine motor skills and visual acuity.

Qualifications
  • A four-year high school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • NYS Department of Health phlebotomy training program.
  • Patient Care Associate with EKG Certification.
  • AHA BLS Certification and Computer Competency required.
  • HIV Pre and Post Test Counseling training/certification.
