Overview:
Job Summary

As a Fresh Meat Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining optimal levels of fresh meat production. Your focus will be on ensuring outstanding customer service, product quality, freshness, and selection while upholding the cleanliness of the department and equipment. You will consistently deliver friendly and courteous service to both internal and external customers and perform related tasks as needed.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proactively engage with customers, creating a welcoming atmosphere and emphasizing exceptional service.
  • Maintain a high level of customer awareness, prioritizing fast, friendly, and courteous interactions.
  • Utilize suggestive selling techniques to enhance customer experience.
  • Prepare fresh meat products by cutting, grinding, and wrapping in accordance with quality and freshness standards.
  • Manage product stocking and rotation effectively.
  • Adhere to trim specifications and ensure proper temperatures are maintained throughout meat preparation, display, and storage.
  • Implement measures to prevent shrinkage and control expenses.
  • Follow legal regulations and company policies to prevent the sale of spoiled or outdated products.
  • Ensure proper merchandising of products, including signage, inventory levels, and overall visual appeal of the department.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the work area, equipment, cutting room, and retail cases in compliance with company policies and legal standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

Ability to:

  • Consistently provide friendly and courteous service to all customers.
  • Work flexible hours, primarily between 5:00 am and 11:00 pm in a 24/7 environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Engage in tactful interactions while maintaining composure with customers and co-workers.
  • Conduct visual inspections and interpret production guides and product labels.
  • Utilize cleaning chemicals safely and effectively according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Handle food products in compliance with state and county laws and WinCo standards.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and adhere to written work assignments and instructions.
  • Lift and maneuver objects weighing up to approximately 80 lbs. frequently.
  • Operate fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks.
  • Perform repetitive arm and hand movements required for meat processing.
  • Stand for extended periods, walk rapidly, and frequently bend, twist, and turn.
  • Execute safe and efficient movements while operating related equipment with manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Work with hands exposed to moisture and in refrigerated environments (32 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • Learn about product variability, perishability, safety, sanitation procedures, and departmental policies.
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations and measure weights and dimensions accurately.
  • Carry out primary duties with efficiency and precision.
  • Wear necessary personal protective equipment as required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Food Handlers Certification (as per state laws).

Machines and Equipment Operated:

  • Scales, knives, band saws, meat tenderizers, meat slicers, grinders, and bailers.
