Key Responsibilities

We are currently seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Preoperative and Post Anesthesia Care. The successful candidate will:
  • Uphold the mission and values of SCA Health.
  • Evaluate patients' preoperative and postoperative conditions in accordance with established protocols, focusing on:
    • Cardiovascular health,
    • Respiratory function and airway management,
    • Neurological status,
    • Hemodynamic stability,
    • Pain management, and
    • Psychological well-being.
  • Accurately interpret data from various monitoring systems.
  • Understand the pathophysiology of common medical conditions.
  • Explain the physiological implications of different anesthesia techniques and surgical interventions.
  • Utilize appropriate scoring systems for patient transfer as per organizational guidelines.
  • Develop personalized care plans for patients undergoing anesthesia.
  • Implement care strategies that include:
    • Managing recovery from various anesthesia types,
    • Ensuring patient safety during recovery,
    • Communicating patient status throughout the care continuum,
    • Administering medications following safety protocols,
    • Maintaining wound integrity and tissue perfusion,
    • Ensuring normothermia postoperatively,
    • Preventing infection,
    • Educating patients and their support systems on care processes,
    • Involving patients in their care decisions,
    • Protecting patient rights and privacy,
    • Delivering culturally competent care, and
    • Providing consistent care across various settings.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans as necessary.
  • Facilitate effective communication during care transitions.
  • Document all nursing interventions accurately and comprehensively.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and performance evaluations.
  • Maintain professional competencies and pursue ongoing development.
  • Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in Preoperative or Post Anesthesia Care.
  • Experience in medical/surgical nursing.
  • Current state nursing license in good standing.
  • Completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required if pediatric care is part of the service scope within 90 days of employment.
