Position Overview

As a Literacy Specialist, you will play a crucial role in advancing literacy initiatives throughout Oklahoma. This position involves collaborating with educational institutions, districts, and educators to enhance literacy instruction and promote effective practices that improve literacy outcomes for all students. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in literacy instruction, excellent communication skills, and the ability to provide valuable support to our statewide literacy initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in early childhood, elementary education, or literacy.
  • Valid Oklahoma teaching certificate in a related field.
  • Five years of experience in literacy instruction or related roles, primarily at the elementary or early childhood level.
  • Completion of a comprehensive training program in the science of reading.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in education, literacy, or National Board Certification.
  • Additional literacy certification in the science of reading.
  • Familiarity with literacy assessment tools and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of the Reading Sufficiency Act.

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrate knowledge of effective reading instruction methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with literacy standards and assessments.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to promote literacy initiatives.
  • Provide professional development for educators in literacy instruction.
  • Stay informed about literacy policies and standards.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position may require fieldwork and travel within the assigned region, as well as time spent in a climate-controlled office setting. Candidates should be prepared for a work environment that involves both sedentary tasks and active engagement.
