Employment Type: Full Time

Overview: The role of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is to respond to urgent medical situations and deliver essential life-saving assistance to individuals who are ill or injured in pre-hospital environments. Under the supervision of Bedford County Emergency Medical Services, the EMT will execute responsibilities related to providing transport services and emergency medical treatment in compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and operational guidelines established by Bedford County Emergency Medical Services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain readiness for emergency response at all times.
  • Respond to emergency calls with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Assess patient conditions and provide basic life support at emergency scenes.
  • Transport patients to medical facilities safely and efficiently.
  • Operate and maintain medical equipment and emergency vehicles.
  • Prepare and manage patient care documentation accurately.

Work Environment: The EMT will often work in high-noise environments and must effectively communicate amidst background distractions. This position requires working in various weather conditions and on uneven terrain. The EMT will encounter patients with varying degrees of illness and injury, primarily in emergency vehicles, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities.

Physical Requirements: This position necessitates significant physical activity, including heavy lifting, walking long distances, and the ability to perform tasks such as crawling and kneeling.

Essential Skills:
  • Strong communication skills to interact with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
  • Proficient in operating emergency medical equipment and vehicles.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Tennessee EMT License.
  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers.
  • Tennessee Driver's License with appropriate endorsements.
  • Minimum age of nineteen (19) years as per state regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PHTLS Certification.
  • EVOC/VKF Certification.
  • At least one year of relevant field experience.
