School Crossing Guard Job Description

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is seeking a part-time School Crossing Guard to ensure the safety of children crossing at intersections in school zones and direct traffic related to the school crossing as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Escort children and parents across designated school crossing zones while stopping traffic.
  • Direct school traffic and buses into the main traffic flow.
  • Direct vehicles to maintain smooth flow of traffic in front of school during designated school drop-off and pick-up hours.
  • Provide directions to the general public.

Requirements:
  • Must be physically able to walk and stand for up to two hours at a time.
  • Must be able to work outdoors and occasionally in cold or inclement weather.
  • Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.

Working Conditions:
  • Seasonal position.
  • May be required to work on religious holidays.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
