Role SummaryThe Cath Lab Technologist plays a crucial role in assisting cardiologists and medical teams during diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. This position requires expertise in patient preparation, operation of specialized imaging technology, and vigilant monitoring of patient health.
Key Responsibilities- Patient Preparation: Prepare individuals for cardiac catheterization by gathering medical histories and ensuring informed consent. Position patients appropriately and maintain sterile environments.
- Procedure Support: Aid cardiologists during various procedures, including angioplasty and stent placements. Operate imaging equipment to capture real-time visuals of cardiac function.
- Equipment Management: Set up and maintain cath lab equipment, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate necessary repairs.
- Patient Monitoring: Continuously observe patient vital signs and respond to any complications during procedures.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of procedures, patient data, and any interventions performed, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Post-Procedure Care: Assist in the recovery of patients post-procedure and provide education on care and follow-up.
- Quality Assurance: Follow safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Education: An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or a related field is required.
Certification: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) is preferred.
Experience: Previous experience in a cardiac cath lab or interventional radiology setting is advantageous.
Skills: Proficiency in operating cath lab equipment, strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, excellent patient care skills, and the ability to thrive in high-pressure environments.
Physical RequirementsAbility to stand for extended periods, wear protective lead aprons, and handle patient mobility as necessary.
