Job Overview

Position Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is tasked with executing regular upkeep and repair duties within the establishment. This role encompasses a variety of maintenance responsibilities across multiple disciplines, including carpentry, electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, and more. This is a full-time, non-exempt hourly role, which may require on-call hours. The position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs cleaning and maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing repairs, electrical work, light bulb replacements, waste removal, equipment repairs, and floor maintenance.
  • Collaborates with team members to prepare rooms for new admissions, which may involve painting, remodeling, and refurbishing areas as necessary.
  • Maintains the exterior of the property and surrounding grounds, including lawn care, landscaping, and snow removal.
  • Oversees the maintenance of outdoor equipment and vehicles.
  • Assists the Maintenance Supervisor in the upkeep of heating and cooling systems, as well as fire safety and alarm systems.
  • Provides transportation for individuals to medical appointments and outings as required.
  • Supports the Maintenance Supervisor with various special projects and seasonal tasks throughout the year.
  • May lead specific projects and oversee maintenance staff as needed.
  • Participates in conducting fire drills and emergency preparedness drills.
  • Demonstrates reliability by reporting to work punctually and being prepared for the shift.
  • Immediately reports any work-related accidents or injuries to the supervisor. Ensures safety protocols are followed at all times.
  • Exhibits respect and consideration for the dignity of all residents, families, visitors, and colleagues, fostering a professional and courteous environment.
  • Respects the privacy rights of residents and coworkers.
  • Completes all mandatory safety training and understands responsibilities related to safety protocols and job-specific hazards.
  • Adheres to exposure control plans regarding bloodborne and airborne pathogens.

Education & Training Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Vocational training in plumbing, HVAC, electrical work, or carpentry is preferred. A creative approach to adapting services to meet individual resident needs is beneficial.

Work Experience Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and carpentry is essential.
  • Experience in a maintenance role, particularly in facility maintenance or long-term care settings, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with current health and safety regulations is required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with all levels of staff and residents.
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and situations is crucial.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language is necessary.

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to communicate verbally and audibly.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds regularly.
  • Regularly required to bend, kneel, squat, twist, or climb.
  • Moderate concentration and intensity are needed, including prolonged mental effort with limited breaks.
  • Must possess adequate vision and hearing to operate vehicles and equipment safely.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license at all times.
  • Moderate complexity in decision-making is expected.

Compensation

Wage is dependent on experience, starting at $18.00+
