Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Radiology Services Assistant to join our team at UnityPoint Health. As a key member of our Radiology Department, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and administrative support to our patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greets patients and checks them in, notifying the appropriate modality of their presence.
  • Answers incoming calls, takes messages, and faxes or mails imaging exam reports as requested.
  • Orders radiology exams with attention to detail and ensures all necessary information is available.
  • Schedules patient procedures according to written protocols and provides daily schedules for the Imaging Services Department.
  • Participates in the clinical instruction of student radiographers as appropriate.
  • Acquires medication lists and assists customers with documentation of information.
  • Ensures accurate registration and verification of patient information and updates patient information as necessary.
  • Burns CDs or pushes images electronically as requested, documenting release of information.
  • Loads outside images into the PACS system.
  • Notifies technologists of STAT procedures and additions or cancellations to the schedule.
  • Determines the need for and gathers patient and exam information to call the on-call Imaging Specialists into work when needed.
  • Assists Imaging Technologists with patient throughput, including instructing and assisting patients to dress for exams, assisting with toileting needs, transferring patients to exam tables, weighing patients for contrast materials, and obtaining checklists and screening forms.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a medical-related field or customer service field.
  • Fluent English language skills, including reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Multicultural sensitivity.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Customer-focused and able to interact effectively with physicians, healthcare team members, patients, and their support systems.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility, initiative, common sense, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with the public in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality according to HIPAA standards.
  • Ability to prioritize work and follow through with minimum supervision.
