EMPLOYMENT TERMS:
Part time, with potential for full-time opportunities
QUALIFICATIONS:
A degree in physical therapy from an accredited program and licensure as a physical therapy assistant in Michigan is required. Experience in educational therapy settings is preferred. A solid understanding of the learning processes for students with severe cognitive and multiple impairments is essential.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This role is designed to collaborate with the Physical Therapist to implement tailored therapy programs for each assigned student.
Responsibilities include executing direct therapy, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with classroom staff to ensure all students can effectively engage with their educational environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Under the supervision of the physical therapist, deliver direct therapy to students with significant impairments, ages 3-26, adhering to the established plans.
2. Assist the physical therapist in creating and updating individualized therapy programs.3.
Support and educate classroom staff on gross motor techniques, lifting, handling, and positioning of students, as well as the proper use of positioning equipment.
4. Participate in classroom team meetings and professional learning community (PLC) sessions to provide insights to classroom staff.5. Aid the physical therapist in developing and maintaining student progress reports.
6. Assume responsibility for the personal care, wellbeing, and environment of students during therapy sessions.
7. Provide instruction in community settings to help students achieve their individualized educational goals.
8. Collaborate with the physical therapist to design mobility and positioning programs for each student, training staff on implementation and monitoring.
9. Assist the therapist in securing annual prescriptions for each student receiving therapy services, ensuring compliance with Medicaid billing requirements.
10. Maintain thorough documentation for all therapy sessions, including attendance, data collection, and Medicaid billing records.
11. Oversee the inventory of mobility equipment within the educational setting, ensuring it is well-maintained and appropriately utilized.
12. Attend IEP/MET meetings, providing necessary documentation as required by the physical therapist.
13. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Performance will be assessed by the supervisor.
