Under the direction of the Supervisor of Tissue Recovery, the Specialist Birth Tissue Acquisition performs all assigned tasks related to the successful acquisition of donated birth tissue post-delivery. The Specialist maintains positive, professional relationships with hospital staff and ensures accurate and thorough completion of donor chart documentation.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate the daily recovery of birth tissue.
- Acquires donated birth tissues for transplant and research following Versiti Organ and Tissue procedures and protocols.
- Packages, labels, and transports donated birth tissue.
- Follows aseptic technique and OR protocol for the acquisition and labeling of donated tissue.
- Transports or coordinates transport of blood samples and/or cultures to assigned destinations.
- Assists with birth tissue supply management.
- Provides education, information, and consultation to hospital staff as needed.
- Identifies and advises management of problems/issues that may arise with hospital staff, physicians, or nurse manager.
- High school education or equivalent required.
- Associate or bachelor degree in a health care field preferred.
- Minimum of one year in healthcare or related field.
- OB Tech / Surgical Tech Certificate preferred.
The Specialist Birth Tissue Acquisition works in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise levels. The position requires standing, walking, and use of hands to finger, handle, or touch. The Specialist may be exposed to blood or other bodily fluids, wet, humid conditions, and work near moving mechanical parts.
