Surgical Technologist I

As a Surgical Technologist I, you will assist in the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic minimally invasive percutaneous procedures by utilizing radiographic and other imaging equipment. You will employ techniques and procedures that are age-appropriate, in accordance with accepted standards of practice, while demonstrating expertise in limiting radiation and laser exposure to patients and other members of the healthcare team.
Responsibilities- Adhere to general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building.
- Ensure readiness of emergency equipment and supplies. Recognize and react appropriately to potential emergencies. Perform routine analysis on imaging equipment to assure proper working conditions and a minimum of downtime.
- Perform or assist in performing procedures and/or diagnostic tests and/or therapeutic exams through understanding of departmental and procedural responsibilities, duties, and accountabilities.
- Provide instruction, education, and consultation to healthcare personnel and patients to promote and improve quality patient care and maintain appropriate education/credentials to accomplish work objectives.
- Maintain coordination of activities with others to accomplish work objectives through positive and professional interactions. Develop and maintain communication with others to effectively plan and coordinate activities and while keeping others informed of work progress.
- Maintain files and compile records according to procedure as required for accurate and current departmental records and/or reports.
- Maintain appropriate education/credentials to accomplish work objectives by being responsible for own professional growth. Seek out learning opportunities available within the department, organization, and community to increase knowledge and education.
- Ensure patient needs are met, promote excellent customer service, and provide quality care through evaluation of pertinent patient data prior to performance of procedures.
- Provide technologist coverage for 24-hour emergency Neuro Endovascular and Vascular Interventional services through regular schedules and call/late schedules.
- Provide age-developmental appropriate care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Guidelines for the age groups served when participating in patient care.
Exceptional oral, written, and listening communication skills. Ability to handle daily stressful environment. Supports employees and physicians in critical patient care environment. Ability to work independently and prioritize clinical responsibilities.
Work EnvironmentPossible exposure to infections and contagious diseases. Frequent exposure to the risk of blood-borne diseases. Possible exposure to toxic chemicals. Frequent exposure to low-level radiation. Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Handles emergency or crisis situations. May perform emergency care. Required protective equipment including eye protection, face protection, gown, lead apron, mask, sterile and non-sterile medical gloves.
