Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Histology Laboratory Technician to join our team at MetroDerm and Center for Plastic Surgery. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Embed processed tissue in paraffin and ensure proper tissue processing.
  • Prepare slides for routine Hematoxylin & Eosin, Periodic Acid Schiff's, and other special stains.
  • Prepare solutions and reagents and perform IHC procedures.
  • Perform gross examination (high complexity testing) of specimens if authorized per CAP regulations.
  • Ensure all lab logs and manuals are kept up to date, including accessioning log/LIS, temperature log, procedure manual, SDS sheets, etc.
  • Operate, clean, and sterilize laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments, ensuring a clean work area at all times.
Requirements
  • Requires Associate Degree or greater in chemical, physical, biological science, or medical laboratory technology.
  • Requires knowledge of medical terminology and standard diagnostic laboratory protocols.
  • Requires ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires visual acuity and normal color perception.
  • Requires ability to stand for extended periods of time to access and operate diagnostic equipment.
  • Requires ability to maintain confidentiality in strict adherence to HIPAA patient confidentiality regulations.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position with a Monday to Friday schedule. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced laboratory environment and maintain confidentiality in strict adherence to HIPAA patient confidentiality regulations.
