RL Controls, LLC (RLC) is an ISO certified systems integrator dedicated to addressing the varied technical requirements of the mass transportation sector. Our primary emphasis is on system technologies that enhance vehicle solutions for shuttle, bus, and rail systems, as well as the associated facilities.

Position Summary: The Field Installation & Service Technician is responsible for executing the installation and testing of vehicle systems ranging from simple to complex. This role involves upgrading equipment, including relevant software, hardware, and data telecommunications network components. Responsibilities also include the installation and termination of DC low voltage power and signal wiring, along with conduit work.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Field Service within the Mass Transit sector. Entry to mid-level candidates are welcome.
  • Technical Degree or Industry Certifications are advantageous.

Ideal Candidate Attributes:

  • Technical expertise or engineering background in the mass transit industry.
  • Ability to adhere to schedules and follow directives while collaborating effectively with colleagues.
  • Proficient in understanding technical documentation, descriptions, and specifications.
  • Capable of evaluating work to ensure high-quality outcomes and continuous improvement.
  • Competent in using hand power tools, including calibrated tools and multimeters, with a willingness to learn specialized processes.
  • Adept at managing multiple tasks, adapting to changes, and employing creative problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and comprehending documentation to complete required reports and follow instructions, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to travel across the country and possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to disassemble and install components in various vehicle types, working in and around electrical lockers and on vehicles up to 16 feet high.
  • Capability to work from a ladder up to 25 feet for camera replacements.
  • Skilled in terminating wires and running cabling and conduit.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Commitment to maintaining compliance with all PPE and safety regulations as per OSHA, FRA, and RLC standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support project execution through onsite work.
  • Perform hands-on installation tasks, including disassembling equipment.
  • Conduct testing and integration activities as part of a collaborative team.
  • Participate in site meetings and provide site-specific insights to the project team.
  • Conduct site surveys and supervise electrical subcontractors.
  • Validate network functionality and complete installation and startup commissioning duties.
  • Engage in annual safety training and testing.
  • Possess low voltage and network experience with both wired and wireless solutions.
  • Comfortable working around AC and DC high voltages when necessary.

Preferred Experience:

  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, construction drawings, and schematics.
  • Experience in field installations, including testing CCTV, access controls, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Familiarity with Axis Camera and/or competitive IP camera technologies.
  • Knowledge of Extreme Networks and other wired and wireless network management technologies.
