We are seeking highly skilled and dedicated Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to join our team as EMT-I (BLS Providers) Eligibility List. As an EMT-I, you will be responsible for providing basic life support (BLS) medical care to patients in emergency situations. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure.
Key Responsibilities- Treat patients who are ill, injured, or in an emotionally distressed state in an appropriate manner and according to BLS guidelines.
- Perform necessary emergency medical care to patients at the scene of an incident and en-route to the hospital or other destination as prescribed by MIEMSS.
- Stabilize the condition of patients and assist in extricating victims from wreckage.
- Perform emergency medical and first aid examinations and treatment, such as bandaging wounds, controlling bleeding, and administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Provide quality patient care utilizing thorough knowledge and appropriate administration of BLS interventions as outlined by state, county, and/or local protocols.
- Assist ALS providers in directing and assisting others in the general execution of EMS duties, maintenance of apparatus and equipment, and general housekeeping activities.
- Perform required inspections to ensure medical supplies are stocked, equipment and apparatus are clean and operational at all times, and all documentation required by individual Fire/EMS stations, MIEMSS, and the EMS Division are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
- Participate in post-incident analysis with coworkers to point out positive points, assure quality documentation, areas of improvement, and to assure adequate skills are maintained.
- Participate in approved continuing education training classes, various meetings, and skills review when necessary.
- Maintain a strict level of security concerning confidentiality of all information and protected health care information.
- Report to work on time with assigned safety equipment and ready for duty.
- Assist other emergency service agencies as required/requested.
- Perform other related job duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).
- Current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Maryland.
- Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) certification.
- National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course certification.
- Haz-Mat Awareness and Incident Management Systems Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to work rotating shifts based on platoon assignment.
- Ability to maintain proficient patient care skills.
- Ability to operate emergency vehicles in accordance with County driving procedures and Emergency Medical Services Division Standard Operating Guidelines.
The nature of the work involves unpredictable circumstances that may include the threat or actual presence of harm. The work is performed indoors and outdoors in emergency situations that may expose the employee to a variety of dangerous conditions, such as inclement weather, hazardous materials, chemicals, smoke, or weakened/unstable structures. Employees are exposed to physically and mentally stressful situations, including trauma, illness, contagious diseases, extreme temperatures, and hazardous environments. Employment involves working alone or in groups, in inclement weather, at all hours of the day or night and holidays, to respond to emergency situations and requests for assistance.
