Maintenance Technician Job Description

The Maintenance Technician will perform maintenance services to ensure facilities are in safe operating condition. This includes addressing immediate operational and/or safety concerns, performing skilled trades as qualified, and safely using and maintaining required tools and machinery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform maintenance tasks to complete projects in a safe and efficient manner
  • Coordinate with supervisor and other personnel to complete projects and work orders efficiently
  • Install system component parts, classroom and office equipment, and facility components to provide a safe and workable environment
  • Maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment to ensure availability in safe operating condition
  • Monitor and maintain boilers to ensure proper functioning
  • Operate equipment, including snow removal equipment as necessary
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars to gather information necessary to perform functions
  • Perform a variety of maintenance activities, including carpentry, painting, glazing, HVAC, to complete projects efficiently
  • Perform preventative maintenance functions on HVAC systems as directed
  • Prepare written materials, such as repair status and boiler logs, to document activities and convey information
  • Repair a variety of furniture and building components to ensure they are in safe working condition
  • Ensure equipment and supplies are available to perform necessary maintenance tasks
  • Transport tools and equipment as needed for the job site
  • Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns
Working Conditions:

The Maintenance Technician will work in an inside/outside environment, including inclement weather. The job requires significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant finger dexterity.

Requirements:
  • Skill in a field relating to building and/or engineering trades
  • Active physical condition
  • Mathematical competency sufficient to perform calculations, including fractions, percents, and/or ratios
  • Driving record with no more than one moving violation in the past two years
  • Illinois Driver's License or ability to obtain one within 30 days
