Manual Machinist Job Description

Volt is seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to join our team in Houston, Texas. As a Manual Machinist, you will be responsible for setting up and operating equipment, performing manual machining operations, and working with various machines such as Bridgeport Mills, Horizontal Boring Mill, and lathe.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate equipment, performing manual machining operations as assigned by the foreman.
  • Work with Bridgeport Mills, Horizontal Boring Mill, and lathe (small and large machines).
  • Machine features on metal parts ranging from.500" to over 84" in diameter.
  • Use hand tools such as micrometers, calipers, scales, height gauges, and gauge blocks to perform in-process inspections.
  • Create and execute machining plans with little or no assistance.
  • Hold close tolerances of.001" and finishes of 32RMS or better.
  • Read and understand blueprints and convert metric to inches.
  • Follow written and oral instructions.
  • Conduct in-process inspections.
  • Stand, climb, kneel, and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Wear PPE at all times and observe health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Complete necessary documentation for each job, including filling out travelers and nonconformance reports.
  • Notify Foremen of equipment problems and any non-conforming material.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in manual machining (not just CNC).
  • Product familiarity and at least 2 years of experience in a similar work environment.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • High school diploma or GED (preferred).
  • Own basic machinist tools.
  • Ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
