Key Responsibilities of the Recovery Support Specialist:

We are seeking a Recovery Support Specialist for our crisis intervention and stabilization services. Candidates should have personal recovery experience, as this background is invaluable in providing support. The lived experience fosters credibility, enabling the specialist to identify and address unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that clients may exhibit at the onset of their treatment journey.

As a Recovery Support Specialist, your duties will include:

  • Engaging with clients in mobile response situations
  • Connecting clients to counseling services, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and detox facilities
  • Assisting in scheduling appointments with Oaklawn or other providers and facilitating transportation
  • Helping clients access essential resources such as employment, safe housing, health insurance, and recovery support
  • Collaborating on the development of personalized recovery plans
  • Providing guidance throughout the recovery process and educating clients about recovery while dispelling common myths regarding substance use and mental health
  • Advocating for client needs
  • Conducting community outreach
  • Instilling hope that recovery is achievable

The Recovery Support Specialist offers peer-level assistance and is not a therapist, counselor, or medical professional. However, they play a crucial role within the treatment team at Oaklawn, advocating for the needs of clients.

Qualifications for the Recovery Support Specialist:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • A valid driver's license and proof of insurance are necessary
  • Personal recovery experience is essential
