Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mohs Surgical Assistant to join our team at APDerm. The successful candidate will provide exceptional support to our Mohs surgeons, ensuring the smooth operation of our surgical procedures and providing a high level of patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Mohs surgeon during procedures, providing hands-on support and ensuring the proper use of instruments and equipment.
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment, maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Perform medical assisting duties, including vital signs, height and weight, and assisting during excisions and Mohs surgical procedures.
  • Ensure all patient care areas are clean, organized, stocked, and ready for patient use.
  • Assist with lab/pathology processing of Mohs specimens and take appropriate photographs of Mohs stages.
  • Perform point of care testing, such as lab tests and specimen collection, and implement quality control standards to ensure proper functioning and accuracy of testing equipment.
  • Provide patients with relevant instructions for specific tests and procedures.
  • Document in the electronic medical system (EMR) as needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • Certified Dermatology Technician (CDT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent amount of education and experience required.
  • Two years of experience in an outpatient surgery center, Mohs dermatology practice, or office-based surgery department preferred.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Infectious control, HIPAA, and OSHA knowledge is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required to communicate with patients, family members, physicians, and other health care providers, as well as other colleagues in a positive, professional manner.
  • Possesses and displays knowledge of medical terminology.
