Job Title: Registered Nurse IV (Evening Shift)

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse IV to join our team at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital. As a key member of our nursing staff, you will provide exceptional care to adult psychiatric patients, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Responsibilities:
  • Assess patient health and mental health status, recording relevant data and administering treatment and medications as needed.
  • Establish a rapport with patients, evaluating their responses and adjusting care plans to ensure their daily needs, dignity, and human rights are met.
  • Assist with patient admissions, collecting data, assessing learning needs, and participating in treatment planning with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Coordinate and implement individual treatment plans, conferring with mental health professionals to ensure plans are carried out as intended.
  • Prepare patients for transfer or discharge by providing health and mental health teaching and facilitating a therapeutic milieu group.
  • Practice principles of Safety, Hope, and Healing, including prevention, trauma-informed care, de-escalation, and restraint/seclusion only when necessary.
  • Perform related duties, such as responding to health and safety issues, communicating with staff, and preparing documentation.
  • Observe patients according to hospital and departmental policy, conducting 15-minute checks and 1:1 or constant observation as ordered.
  • Supervise and provide leadership to nursing staff, utilizing professional standards of practice to ensure patients receive appropriate care and treatment.
  • Evaluate nursing activities, reviewing patient medical records, observing care, and visiting patients to ensure care is carried out as directed.
  • Participate in meetings and team building to ensure total patient care needs are met and good working relationships are established.
Requirements:
  • Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
  • At least two years of full-time experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic, or medical facility, with at least one year in a supervisory, administrative, or managerial capacity.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing, psychopathology, and current treatment approaches.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility and deal with stress, as well as set a positive working climate and establish effective working relationships.
  • Capacity to accurately describe patient physical, behavioral, and mental status in oral and written reports.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual or multilingual fluency, particularly given the population served.
  • Three years of supervisory experience, with prior charge nurse experience and five years of experience working with individuals with acute mental illness.
