Covenant Health is seeking a skilled Clinical Laboratory Technician to join our team. As a Clinical Laboratory Technician, you will play a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by performing routine and specialized clinical lab tests.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, and safety standards.
- Collect and properly handle venous and capillary blood specimens.
- Properly handle all specimens, including prompt transport to the lab, special tube requirements, on ice, as needed, preparation, and preservation, without contamination, etc.
- Identify and label specimens.
- Perform all routine and specialized lab tests trained for as assigned.
- Run, maintain, and/or repair laboratory equipment.
- Perform and document quality control samples in assigned work area.
- Clean and sterilize equipment, glassware, and instruments.
- Prepare solutions, reagents, and stains according to standard formulas and procedures.
- Answer phones and respond to physician inquiries regarding lab results.
- Maintain required records, reports, statistics, logs, files to comply with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies, i.e., CLIA.
- Act as CLIA trainer for the clinic as appropriate and have thorough knowledge of lab requirements.
- Inform patients of test results and medication changes or adjustments as needed after physician reviews and approves report.
- Plan work to ensure maximum productivity with minimum amount of "carry over" work, while keeping overtime to a minimum.
- Responsible for communicating to other appropriate staff needed information about patient samples or instrument performance.
- Comply with OSHA standards, Universal Precautions, safety manuals, and laboratory policies and procedures, including wearing gloves and using safety needles.
- Use fundamentals of AIDET when communicating with patients.
- Maintain all insurance payor billing requirements and lab billing procedures so profitability of lab is maximized.
- Attend meetings as required and participate on committees as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
- Collaborate with the patient, physician, and other care team members as part of a team-based approach to overall patient care.
- Minimum Education: None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill, and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.
- Minimum Experience: Entry-Level Position. Must possess basic computer skills, phlebotomy skills, and know basic medical terminology. OSHA and CLIA annual training.
