Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) operates under the guidance of the Director of Nursing or their delegate, delivering professional nursing care to patients with acute and chronic health conditions. The RN's responsibilities include evaluating patient health issues, formulating and executing nursing care plans, maintaining comprehensive medical records, and providing education to patients regarding their health conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute the nursing process and established protocols, including implementing physicians' orders and prescribed treatments.
- Prioritize patient data collection based on immediate health needs.
- Foster effective working relationships with patients, healthcare team members, and the community.
- Adhere to Civil Service policies, collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws to ensure a safe and respectful work environment.
- Conduct daily patient assessments to document physical and emotional status, including responses to treatment.
- Develop and implement personalized treatment plans based on clinical observations and communicate findings to the healthcare team.
- Delegate nursing tasks appropriately while supervising the work of team members.
- Manage medication therapies, administer medications, and educate patients on their treatment regimens.
- Provide holistic care that addresses the diverse needs of each patient.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
- Deliver care in a manner that respects patient diversity and upholds their dignity and rights.
- Assist physicians during rounds and examinations.
- Educate patients and families about treatment plans and health issues.
- Ensure cleanliness and safety of the healthcare environment.
- Support the operational functions of the treatment facility.
- Manage patients at risk of escalation and provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions to support patient understanding of their health challenges.
- Conduct patient admissions and gather comprehensive medical histories.
- Record vital signs and perform basic medical procedures as required.
- Provide education to patients and families to ease concerns about psychiatric care.
- Communicate effectively during shift changes to ensure continuity of care.
- Recognize and respond to acute patient episodes, ensuring safety and compliance with protocols.
- Assist patients in accessing follow-up care and community resources.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss patient care and departmental policies.
- Maintain professional competency in psychiatric nursing practices.
- Uphold departmental procedures regarding hazardous materials and patient safety.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a positive representation of healthcare services.
- Collaborate with community medical facilities and agencies as necessary.
- Testify in legal settings regarding patient conditions when required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Associate's degree, Diploma, or BSN from an accredited nursing program.
- Must possess a current Registered Nurse license from Nebraska or a compact state recognized by the Nebraska Board of Nursing.
- Experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
- Current CPR certification.
- Covid Vaccination or Declination/Waiver.
