Histology Technician

Mass General Brigham is seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our team in Chelsea, Massachusetts.

• Prepare and stain frozen section specimens under the supervision of the Director.
• Accession specimens for billing and maintain the Laboratory, including supplies.
• Perform gross sectioning, fixing, processing, embedding, cutting, staining, coverslipping, and mounting of tissue.
• Produce and maintain accurate records and bills for all work performed.
• Re-order stock items as needed.
• Prepare stains and stock solutions and monitor pH and expiration dates.
• Set up, maintain, operate, and clean all laboratory equipment and instruments.
• Properly dispose of all chemicals.
• Date and label used hazardous waste containers.
• Prepare hazardous waste for pick up.
• Maintain quality control data for the laboratory.
• May perform specialized tests including special stains, immunoperoxidase, cytospin, centrifuge techniques, as well as preparation of smears.

• HT ASCP or HLT ASCP Registration preferred and 1 year of college, with courses in biology and chemistry preferred.
• Two years experience in frozen section preparation.
• Two years experience in a histology laboratory.
• Experience cutting paraffin-embedded tissue and special staining techniques, including immunoperoxidase.
