Rutland Regional Medical Center is seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Optometrist Support Specialist to join our team.

Job Summary:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organized individual who will work under the direction of practice providers, performing clinical duties such as obtaining medical records, preparing patients for exams, and conducting preliminary eye function testing.

This role requires strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain medication or procedures to patients. You will also be responsible for sterilizing and cleaning equipment, maintaining examination rooms and supplies at an outpatient care site.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, you will assist with administrative tasks related to patient contact.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, with coursework in Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology/Biology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A minimum of one year of experience in a physician practice or outpatient clinic setting involving patient contact is preferred.

You will be required to obtain BLS Certification through American Heart Association within a month of hire and Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification within 18 months of hire.

This role offers on-the-job training, tuition reimbursement, and continuing education opportunities to get certified.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain medical records and prepare patients for exams
  • Conduct preliminary eye function testing and explain medication or procedures to patients
  • Sterilize and clean equipment, maintain examination rooms and supplies
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to patient contact
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive working relationship with patients and healthcare teams

Requirements:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Coursework in Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology/Biology, or equivalent combination of education and experience
