JOB SUMMARY:


The Radiologic Imaging Specialist is responsible for executing diagnostic imaging procedures using advanced radiological equipment to aid in the identification of medical conditions and injuries.


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Associate's Degree in a Related Field or a Certificate in Radiologic Technology

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Must possess an IEMA Radiography License in Illinois upon hire and achieve Radiography (R)(ARRT) certification within one year.

Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while ensuring efficient patient flow and executing various technical procedures that require independent judgment and initiative.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Conducts radiographic examinations by obtaining and processing patient images in accordance with regulatory standards and departmental protocols. Collaborates with radiologists when necessary. Reviews laboratory results and patient history to ensure accurate examinations. Administers IV contrast and oral/rectal contrast as needed. Identifies and addresses any adverse reactions or allergies. Administers IV contrast material through an existing IV line or by performing venipuncture. Screens patients for potential pregnancy and conducts pregnancy tests if applicable.
Responsible for verifying the completeness and accuracy of radiology orders. Reviews patient history and supporting clinical data to confirm medical necessity. Takes necessary steps to gather additional information from patients, ordering providers, or Radiologists if required.
Ensures imaging quality standards are met by evaluating positioning, technical factors, and alignment. Reviews patient data for precision, quality, and thoroughness.
Transfers and verifies image data in PACS, providing necessary medical history and information for Radiologist interpretation. Utilizes web servers and email systems to send exams for preliminary readings after hours.
Maintains imaging equipment and a clean work environment, including managing supply inventories and ensuring the organization of the workspace. Identifies malfunctions and service needs, reporting them promptly.
Ensures the safety of patients, visitors, and the environment. Reports safety incidents immediately, including near misses.
Assists in training students and new staff as required. May assume the responsibilities of Rad Tech Lead or Imaging Coordinator in their absence.
Meets productivity benchmarks established by the department. Provides assistance to other areas during downtimes to maintain overall productivity.

May be required to perform duties in other modalities within the department for which the technologist/sonographer holds licensure.

Compliance with job descriptions for cross-trained modalities is expected unless specific compliance, licensure, or accrediting body requirements dictate otherwise.
