The ASHTABULA CITY is seeking a highly motivated and physically fit individual to join our Sanitation Department as a Full Time Laborer.

Job Summary:
  • Collect refuse along waste collection routes and transport waste to a transfer station and/or landfill.
  • Perform various waste recycling activities, including lifting and carrying heavy materials.
  • Operate power tools as needed and assist in the maintenance of equipment.
  • Work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment, with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:
  • Lift and place garbage bags and/or cans into garbage truck.
  • Pick up yard waste and tree limbs.
  • Assist in various waste recycling activities.
  • Lift furniture, tires, and waste materials from public and private property.
  • Collect litter from right-of-way and public areas.
  • Clean job sites and public property with periodic supervision of others.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Currently possess a State of Ohio Class B Ohio Commercial Drivers License.
  • Ability to drive a garbage truck and follow orders, rules, maps, and direction for refuse pick up.
  • Capable of independent and responsible action, with a safe driving record.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with the public and read written orders.
Working Conditions:
  • Work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must be in excellent health and physical condition.
  • Must be able to walk through rough terrain and have good sight and hearing.
Compensation:

$19.73/hour (entrance rate), with opportunities for advancement and increased compensation.
