Position Overview
Summary
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for coordinating and conducting examinations and treatments using radionuclides, adhering to NRC regulations under the supervision of a radiologist.
Qualifications and Skills
1. Education: Graduate from an accredited JRC program. Current BLS CPR certification is required.
2. Experience: Certification from ARRT (American Registry of Radiological Technologists) (N) or NMTCB (Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board) is preferred.
3. Knowledge and Abilities: Engages in educational programs as outlined by departmental policies. Actively participates in staff meetings and stays informed about changes in policies, procedures, and technological advancements. Utilizes safe operational practices for nuclear medicine equipment and radionuclide administration. Familiarity with hospital protocols, including infection control, is essential. Demonstrates skill and precision in patient positioning and the scientific application of established technical factors. Employs proper body mechanics for the transportation, transfer, and positioning of patients and equipment. Provides care across all age groups.
4. Licensure Requirements: Valid Ohio Licensure. Registration as a Nuclear Technologist or relevant nuclear experience is preferred.
5. General Orientation: Orientation will provide insight into existing hospital and departmental policies and procedures, along with the values and expectations of Mercy Health Mission Services.
Key Responsibilities
1. Adheres to established policies and procedures to ensure that quality, efficiency, and safety standards are met. Treats all individuals associated with the hospital, including employees, patients, and visitors, with fairness, respect, and dignity.
2. Maintains proficiency in all procedures, equipment, and regulations related to Nuclear Medicine.
3. Conducts necessary documentation and testing to comply with NRC licensure requirements.
4. Develops or maintains additional skills as needed by the department.
5. Ensures cleanliness and readiness of the work area, promoting the physical and emotional well-being of patients in our care.
6. Accurately documents patient information and completes all required documentation, including equipment checks and quality assurance activities.
7. Collaborates with department staff, ancillary departments, nursing staff, physicians, and patients to ensure a comprehensive approach to patient care, including pre- and post-exam education. Participates in on-call rotations as per departmental policy.
8. Embodies the Mission and Core Values (Compassion, Excellence, Human Dignity, Justice, Sacredness of Life, Service) of Mercy Health.
9. Complies with the standards and policies of the Corporate Responsibility Program, including the obligation to adhere to applicable laws and regulations, and reporting any suspected unethical or unlawful practices.
