Job Summary

The Fitchburg Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled Speech and Language Therapist to fill a critical role in providing learning experiences that engage all students in achieving high academic standards while developing intellectual rigor, creative interest, and social characteristics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat students with speech or language disorders to ensure they receive the necessary support to succeed academically.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment programs, maintaining accurate records to track student progress.
  • Communicate effectively with faculty and parents to inform them of students' progress and provide updates on treatment plans.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assess students to determine eligibility for speech and language services, utilizing standardized assessments and evaluations to inform treatment decisions.
  • Regularly assess students who receive services, adhering to IEP guidelines and/or individual student needs.
  • Monitor students' progress and needs, determining and developing goals and objectives to ensure effective treatment.
  • Meet with students regularly, maintaining records of their progress and providing feedback to inform treatment decisions.
  • Write student IEP progress reports and goals, ensuring that treatment plans are aligned with district standards and objectives.
  • Attend and participate in IEP meetings as required, collaborating with educators and parents to ensure student success.
  • Report progress to staff and parents, meeting with them regularly to discuss evaluations and treatment plans.
  • Provide learning experiences guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards, differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Implement the district's mission, philosophy of education, and instructional standards and objectives, promoting high standards and expectations for student achievement.
  • Document students' progress and/or concerns, seeking assistance as required to ensure effective treatment.
  • Monitor and supervise students through effective classroom management, promoting a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Promote equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning, fostering a culture of inclusivity and respect.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary license in Speech Language and Hearing Disorders.
  • CCC-SLP (Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology) issued by ASHA.
  • CFY-Clinical Fellow Year.
  • Knowledge of current education legislation and regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Belief in the commitment to increasing personal growth and achievement for every student.
Reports to

Principal/SPSA/Director of Special Education.

Terms of Employment/Salary/Work Year

As negotiated by the Fitchburg School Committee and the Fitchburg Education Association (FEA).

An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of NCBC (fingerprinting) and CORI prior to your start of employment.
