Job Summary

The Welder/Fitter will be responsible for laying out, fitting, and fabricating metal components to assemble structural and miscellaneous metals. This includes beams, columns, stairs railings, and other metal components. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of reading drawings and transferring that information to the layout table.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lay out and position parts and assemblies according to specifications, using precision measuring instruments and equipment.
  • Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.
  • Cut workpieces using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knives.
  • Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using precision measuring instruments.
  • Remove rough spots from workpieces, using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Heat, form, and dress metal parts, using hand tools, torches, or arc welding equipment.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
  • Develop templates and work aids to hold and align parts.
  • Determine required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current welding certifications.
  • Experience with MIG welding and TIG welding preferred.
  • Background in steel manufacturing or metal fabrication preferred.
  • LA City Weld Card preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to weld components in various positions.
  • Ability to work in a standing position for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working on elevated surfaces.
  • Resilient to working in adverse climatic conditions.
  • Manual dexterity and stability required for precision work.
  • Ability to see details at close range.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
