Position Overview

The Assistant Manager for Wildland Seed Collection Operations plays a pivotal role in supporting the mission of River Partners by overseeing the collection of native seeds essential for habitat restoration projects. This position is integral to ensuring the sustainability and health of California's ecosystems.

Location

While the primary base of operations is in Sacramento, remote work arrangements may be considered based on the applicant's proposed home office.

Employment Status

This is a full-time, exempt position.

Reporting Structure

The role reports directly to the Wildland Seed Collection Manager.

Compensation

The annual salary for this position ranges from $66,560 to $68,000, commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Manager will collaborate with the Heritage Growers team and the River Partners science team to:

  • Conduct field assessments to evaluate native seed availability.
  • Assist in the collection of source-identified wildland seeds across various California locations.
  • Manage the seed collection process, including obtaining necessary permissions, performing pre-collection surveys, monitoring seed ripeness, and overseeing seed conditioning and testing.
  • Maintain accurate seed inventory records and documentation of the collection process.
  • Travel extensively during the collection season, with approximately 50%-75% travel required.
  • Support data management and administrative tasks related to seed and plant sales.
Essential Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A strong passion for habitat restoration and conservation.
  • Proficiency in identifying herbaceous and woody plant species native to California.
  • Experience in managing field crews and conducting seed collection.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • A bachelor's degree in botany, plant sciences, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
