Position Overview

The Registered Nurse - Float Pool for ICU embodies the mission and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, adhering to the organization's ethical standards and compliance protocols. This role is pivotal in delivering high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients through a systematic approach of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.

As a vital member of the float pool, the nurse will be assigned to various hospital locations within the Northwestern Medicine network. Assignments typically last a minimum of six weeks and can extend up to six months at a single facility. This position not only enhances clinical competencies but also fosters collaboration and communication among a diverse team of healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, analyze data, and establish individualized care plans to meet patient needs.
  • Oversee patient care delivery, ensuring optimal utilization of support staff in direct patient interactions.
  • Engage with patients, families, and healthcare teams to create documented care plans focused on achieving positive health outcomes.
  • Participate in collaborative decision-making processes, committee initiatives, and unit-based projects.
  • Monitor and document patient responses to nursing interventions, adjusting care plans as necessary based on evaluations.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practices and research findings into clinical decision-making.
Qualifications

Required:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in inpatient medical/surgical, stepdown, or intensive care settings.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (CPR).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience as a float nurse or in a coverage role within an inpatient hospital environment.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, with a commitment to obtaining a BSN within two years of employment.
