Job Overview

Role Summary

Support the Lead Educator in delivering effective instruction and supervision within a nurturing and secure educational environment for young children. Engage in the planning and execution of the curriculum to ensure adherence to educational standards while facilitating enriching learning experiences across all developmental areas. Collaborate in assessing individual student progress and tailoring educational approaches to meet diverse needs. Work alongside other staff and families to address the educational, health, and social service requirements of each child and their family. Foster family engagement in all program activities.

Comply with Head Start Performance Standards, state childcare licensing requirements, and organizational policies while maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

Possess a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for preschool children, an Associate's or Bachelor's degree, or be actively pursuing a CDA credential or degree within two years of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in early childhood education settings, particularly in Head Start programs. Training in child development, classroom management, prevention of child abuse, positive discipline strategies, social work, communication, and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy educational environment.
  • Conduct weekly cleaning and sanitization of the classroom.
  • Adhere to the established classroom schedule set by the Lead Educator.
  • Contribute to lesson planning, ensuring individualization for each child and enhancing classroom activities.
  • Support the Lead Educator in executing lesson plans and daily responsibilities.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that promote growth in language, literacy, social-emotional skills, mathematics, science, social studies, creative arts, and physical development.
  • Implement CLASS strategies effectively to foster an optimal learning atmosphere.
  • Guide student behavior positively, aligning with the organization's Child Guidance policy and Behavior Management procedures.
  • Model and promote healthy nutrition and wellness practices.
  • Monitor student health and safety during school hours.
  • Ensure active supervision to maintain the safety of all children.
  • Assist in documenting each child's developmental milestones using the program's data collection tools.
  • Conduct developmental screenings for each child within the initial weeks of attendance.
  • Maintain anecdotal records for each child and update the COR system weekly.
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Lead Educator in their absence.

Collaboration

  • Actively engage parents and families in their child's educational journey.
  • Maintain regular communication with families through various channels to build supportive relationships.
  • Participate in home visits and parent-teacher conferences to discuss developmental progress and set goals.
  • Collaborate with all components of the organization to provide comprehensive services for children and families.
  • Support volunteers, substitutes, and parents in the classroom setting.
  • Work cooperatively with staff to foster a positive work environment.
  • Maintain a constructive relationship with the Lead Educator to ensure quality educational experiences for students.
  • Participate in all required meetings and training sessions.
  • Complete assigned tasks within designated timeframes.
