Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Cook to join our team at the City of New York. As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking food in an institutional setting, supervising inmates, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook food using standard procedures and quantity recipes
  • Portion out food according to departmental standards and check prepared food out of the kitchen to feeding areas
  • Supervise and instruct inmates assigned to the unit
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and order of the work area
  • Serve on steam table in serving area, as required
Requirements
  • Two years of cooking experience
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English and carry out simple instructions
  • For Department of Correction and Department of Juvenile Justice only: One year of experience in a correctional facility assisting in the cooking and preparation of food and performing related functions under the supervision of a Cook
