Job Overview:
The District Seventeen Medical Examiner's Office is a crucial component of the Florida state medical examiner system, serving a diverse population within Broward County. Our office is accredited by the National Association of Medical Examiners and operates a fully accredited toxicology laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have graduated from a medical school recognized by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation. Candidates must hold a valid Florida medical license and be certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic pathology or forensic pathology. Certification must be completed within two years of employment.


Key Responsibilities:

As an Associate Medical Examiner, you will:

  1. Conduct autopsies and external examinations to ascertain the cause and manner of death.
  2. Perform pathological and toxicological assessments.
  3. Gather evidence for law enforcement during examinations.
  4. Collaborate with death investigators and law enforcement agencies.
  5. Prepare comprehensive reports detailing findings and conclusions.
  6. Oversee and mentor forensic pathology fellows and residents.
  7. Engage with families, law enforcement, and legal representatives regarding case discussions.
  8. Provide expert testimony in court and depositions.
  9. Ensure compliance with established regulations in all medical examiner activities.
  10. Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

The role involves physical demands including walking, standing, and lifting, requiring the exertion of 20 to 50 pounds regularly. Exposure to toxic and caustic chemicals is routine, necessitating adherence to safety protocols.
