Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

Perform nuclear medicine diagnostic procedures on patients in accordance with physicians' orders, ensuring accurate and timely results.

Essential Duties:

  • Prepare patients for nuclear medicine procedures by explaining the procedure, administering radio pharmaceuticals, and positioning patients for imaging.
  • Perform nuclear medicine diagnostic procedures, adhering to strict safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Provide high-quality images, data analysis, and patient information to radiologists in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and files, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining radiation detection equipment and nuclear medicine examination rooms, performing quality control tests and initiating corrective action as necessary.
  • Manage nuclear medicine supplies, ordering as needed to ensure adequate inventory.
  • Schedule patient appointments, ensuring efficient use of time and resources.
  • Participate in hospital committees and task forces, such as the Radiation Safety Committee, to promote a culture of safety and excellence.
  • Train and conduct in-services on radiation safety and protection procedures for hospital staff, promoting a culture of safety and compliance.
Requirements

General Requirements:

  • American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) nuclear medicine certification or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) licensure is required within one year of board eligibility.

Work Experience:

  • None required.

Education:

  • Completion of an accredited Radiology Technology or Nuclear Medicine Technology program.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of radio pharmaceuticals and nuclear medicine imaging techniques.
  • Understanding of accrediting and regulatory standards, hospital policies, and compliance guidelines.
  • Excellent written and computer skills for preparing documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff.
  • Ability to calculate radio pharmaceutical concentrations and dosages.
  • Mental ability to adapt to multiple priorities, deal with emotional needs, and work accurately under pressure.
