Position Summary:
Under the general oversight of the Respiratory Therapy Supervisor, the Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering essential life-support services, resuscitation, monitoring, and administering various medical gas therapies to patients. This role involves assisting individuals across all age groups with both acute and chronic conditions, aiming to restore them to a productive lifestyle through education and the application of diverse therapeutic techniques.
The therapist may conduct diagnostic assessments and monitoring through the use of spirometry, both at the bedside and in alignment with physician directives for pulmonary function evaluations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, develop care plans, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals. Patient care constitutes 100% of work hours.
- Delegate appropriate patient care tasks to support staff, including Respiratory Therapists, interns, and students, ensuring effective communication and guidance.
- Engage with colleagues and other professionals, including physicians and nursing staff, to ensure optimal patient care. Actively participate in daily bedside rounds.
- Uphold high standards of clinical excellence in accordance with departmental policies.
- Exhibit proficiency in various departmental specialties, clinical areas, and life support, as well as diagnostic and monitoring equipment. Demonstrate competency in specialized procedures and protocols, working across multiple locations as assigned.
- Administer various therapeutic modalities as prescribed by physician orders or established protocols, ensuring maximum benefit and patient safety.
- Administer and monitor medical gases as per physician orders and established protocols, utilizing appropriate delivery devices.
- Evaluate the pulmonary status of patients, communicate clinical findings to physicians, and recommend suitable therapies. Explain procedures and equipment to patients effectively.
- Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation by providing basic life support, assessing patient responses to clinical interventions, and communicating findings appropriately.
- Collect and analyze arterial and capillary blood samples, verify and interpret results, and document findings for physician review.
- Perform specific duties as determined by site assignments, which may include equipment cleaning, maintenance, and testing.

Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
- Current Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
- Certification as a Basic Life Support (BLS) provider.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required for NICU staff.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required for ICU staff.
- Preferred experience in an acute care hospital setting.
