We are a 5-doctor practice that has been serving the community since 1939. Our hospital is equipped to perform a wide range of surgical procedures, and we schedule procedures 5 days a week. Our team relies on utilizing technicians to the full extent of their capabilities.
Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced full-time veterinary technician to join our team. Certified and non-certified candidates will be considered. As a veterinary technician at Commonwealth Veterinary Hospital, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, assisting veterinarians and other technicians, and performing various medical procedures.
Responsibilities- Administer medications, assist or perform treatments, diagnostics & monitoring, place IV catheters, draw blood, run lab tests, administer IV fluids, cleaning, feeding, and walking patients as needed.
- Anesthesia/Surgery – Prep, induction, maintenance, monitoring, recovery of patients, cleans/maintains/sterilize anesthesia equipment and surgical instruments.
- Dentistry- Provide ultrasonic cleaning and polishing, obtain dental radiographs with every case, and assist the doctor with oral surgery.
- Radiology - Position patients and assist with radiographs, sending radiographs via email.
- Preparation of invoices, discharge instructions, and client informational tools.
- Client communication for hospitalized patients - give patient updates, discharge instructions, and provide follow up for certain hospital patients.
- Client medical demonstrations / education - teach/educate clients on at home care procedures.
- Veterinary Technician appointments- vaccine boosters, blood draws for therapeutic monitoring / screening tests, post-op checks, suture removals, AG, NT.
- Outpatient technician shifts- assisting doctor with outpatient appointments, preparing, restocking, cleaning exam room, check patients in and out, take history and vitals as needed, input data into patient medical record, ensure a smooth and timely flow of outpatient appointments from check-in to discharge.
- Support & Assist with reception/front desk duties as needed- answering phones, booking appointments, triage/scheduling.
- Assist in training and mentoring new team members.
- Assist with inventory control – informing inventory manager when products are getting low/out, unpacking, restocking drug & medical supplies.
- Preparation of prescriptions - dispensed medications & medication refills.
- The veterinary technician must have the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds and over 50 pounds with a coworker.
- The veterinary technician must be able to endure sitting, standing and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods of time.
- The veterinary technician must possess sufficient ambulatory skills to perform duties while in a hospital environment.
- The veterinary technician must be able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high.
- The veterinary technician will be routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances.
- The veterinary technician must have good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity, the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment.
