Nurse Practitioner-Inpatient Ortho Surgery Position

Job Summary:
UC San Diego Health is seeking a highly skilled Nurse Practitioner to join our Inpatient Ortho Surgery team. As a key member of our multidisciplinary care team, you will work closely with medical staff to provide comprehensive and problem-focused history and physical exams, interpret and correlate laboratory and diagnostic procedures, and formulate a differential diagnosis and establish a working diagnosis.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct hospital rounds, discharge planning, and consultative evaluations
- Work closely with the physician and nursing staff to develop and coordinate a plan of care designed to meet the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients and their families
- Obtain, compile, and record patient medical data, including admission and discharge notes, daily progress notes, and results of examination
- Implement therapeutic intervention for specific conditions when appropriate
- Exercise judgment on problems requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the collaborating orthopedic surgeon or other healthcare professionals
- Order, prescribe, dispense, and administer medication, orthoses, braces, injections, and other orthopedic devices
- Perform minor procedures within scope of practice, such as wound closure and management and incision and drainage
- Provide patient education and triage, and facilitate medical documentation and coding, patient forms, and other non-patient-facing responsibilities as part of the clinical practice
Requirements:
- Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program
- California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification
- Current Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) Certification (AGACNP or ACNP)
- BLS and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six months of hire date
- Two or more years of experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner with inpatient post-surgical management of Orthopaedic patients
- Hospital-based ICU, surgical ICU, recovery room, step-down unit, and/or ED consult experience as an NP
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience in inpatient care within orthopedic surgery
- Experience in total joint replacement, spine surgery, or general surgery
Special Conditions:
- May be required to travel and provide care at multiple clinical sites as scheduled for the Department
- Must be able to obtain UC San Diego Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment

The hiring pay scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
