Job Overview

Position Summary

Key Responsibilities:

Role Overview

Under minimal supervision, the technician will join metal parts utilizing various welding techniques, including brazing and different arc and gas welding equipment, to construct or mend products such as vanes, shrouds, and other turbine jet engine components.

Core Duties
  • Set up welding apparatus, position components for welding, adjust electrical input, select gas and orifice, and manage gas flow to achieve optimal weld penetration and metal flow.
  • Conduct specialized welding tasks on turbine air-cooled vanes and vane rings, along with other hot section components of turbo jet engines, adhering to technical specifications.
  • Fabricate necessary gas backup and chilled bars as needed for efficient welding repairs.
  • Utilize gas welding or brazing techniques alongside various arc welding processes to join metal parts.
  • Perform related activities such as thermal cutting and grinding.
  • Repair damaged or cracked components, fill voids, and enhance the size of metal parts.
  • Position and secure components of fabricated metal products in preparation for welding.
  • Identify and mend cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the work area and assist in team housekeeping efforts.
  • Comply with all safety protocols, including lock-out/tag-out procedures; report safety issues, utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and adhere to safety practices.
  • Support the training of new team members.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)/Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding, or at least 40 college credit hours in Welding from an accredited institution, including GTAW/TIG welding.
  • Welder certification on components is mandatory, in accordance with Quality Assurance Manual specifications; periodic welding proficiency tests are required.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime and on any shift.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English; interpret and follow written procedures, such as Aviation Work Instructions (AWI), and complete documentation accurately.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or a 2-year certificate in Welding from an accredited institution, including GTAW/TIG welding.
  • Demonstrated experience and a proactive approach to identifying process improvements.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Commitment to promoting safe work practices.
  • Strong communication skills.
